A member pulled up his account on David Prince’s morning call. Around 200k. Thirty open positions.

David looked at it for about four seconds.

“He has approximately 23 too many positions.”

Nobody laughed. Half the room had the same problem.

Spreading across thirty names feels reasonable. It’s what every advisor has preached for thirty years. David’s take:

“If you’re not running millions of dollar, 30 positions is passive. You’ll never get a real alpha with 30 positions.”

He teaches the 10/80 rule — roughly 10 percent of the year’s ideas, the real conviction moments, produce about 80 percent of the gains. Most of the year is expensive noise.

“Half of the game is the trades you don’t take.”
